The Massachusetts Gubernatorial Race
With his two terms completed, it is time for Governor Deval Patrick to step aside and let another person try their hand at being the governor of Massachusetts. Patrick, a huge supporter of President Obama and a well known liberal, is a democrat through and through, as Massachusetts is a traditionally democrat state. The gubernatorial race is between Charlie Baker (R) and Martha Coakley (D). Baker's background, aside from losing to Governor Patrick in 2010, is in the business world, while Coakley is currently the Massachusetts Attorney General. Her political career, however, is not without flaw either, as she lost the late Ted Kennedy's senate seat to republican Scott Brown in a special election in 2010.
Baker differs from most republicans as he is economically conservative but socially rather moderate. Baker supports same sex marriage and is pro-choice, but stands for dialing back on the sales tax and cutting government spending. Baker is best known for his affiliations with the business world, but also has a rich political background. In his life, he has served on the board of selectmen for Swampscott and ran unsuccessfully against Deval Patrick in 2010.
Coakley is currently the Massachusetts Attorney General and the former District Attorney in the middlesex county. Coakley is also pro-choice and supportive of same sex marriage, but differs from Baker in that she in some instances favors raising taxes. Like Baker, Coakley is also famous for loosing, as she is very famous for her loss to Scott Brown in a special election in 2010. Coakley tends to pull in a larger portion of the female voters, which could prove to be extremely beneficial to her in November.

The Attorney General Election- The two candidates in the election are Maura Healy (D) and John Miller (R).
Maura Healy is the Ex-Attorney General's Office Civil Rights Bureau Chief and the Democratic nominee for Attorney General. She has taken clear stances on many different hot button issues like gun policy, the repeal of gambling, same-sex marriage, and abortion. She has declared herself to be Pro-Choice, and strongly in favor of same sex-marriage. She is against casinos in Massachusetts and wants to take on income inequality by attempting many different tactics including raising minimum wage.
John Miller is an Attorney and a Civil Engineer and the Republic nominee of Attorney General. John Miller believes the position of Attorney General is less of a political position and more of an economic duty. He is running on the pedestal of fighting political corruption. He says he will simply comply with whatever the voters decide on the casino issue. In addition to political corruption, Miller is targeting crime and is focusing on ways to decrease crime rates of Massachusetts.
